RANDOM TOPICS BELOW! DONT READ IF YOU HAD DRAGGY WASTE TIME THINGSTOPIC: Exercise
Exercising, something that society deem good for health but is neglecting by the majority of people, somehow. In the Singaporean context, every student after a certain age have to experience a physical fitness test. There seems to be this observable phenomenon; about 2 to 3 weeks before the actual assessment, students tend to start practising, traning intensively jsut for the hope to obtain a pass, silver or gold. Maybe people have started to treat this like some sort of theory type examination, and thus starting preparation a few weeks before hand. However, we realise that exercising should be a constant habit, something that happens over a longer period of time to get into the pink of health. This is why we also can notice the slight increase in absentee or injury rate during this period of time due to the sudden increase intensity of training that our body is unable to cope with.
I believe this system was in place to emphasize the importance of exercise. However, with such habit as stated above, I se the success rate of this assessment to be considerably low, unless exercising for a certain period of time in one year is considered to be healthy enough. I think that this sort of assessment ought to be a monitoring system thorughout the year. Such a system is in place for majority of the schools, but the minority, such as mine, ought to follow such programmes accordingly if they want to see more healthy, non-obese people walking along the streets. Some may argue that it is a total waste of time in which that short hour or so of exercise can be spent more meaningfully on something that can benefit them. Well, if this physical fitness is monitored evenly throughout the year, then this will provide more room for teachers to aid those who do not meet the basic health guidelines for their specific age group and gender. Currently, the short time frame in which students start preparing for this assessment is almost defintely not sufficient to make drastic improvements.
Especially for the guys, they will be the ones who defend the people, the country. If they do not meet the basic health guidelines, our frontline of defense the drastically disadvantaged. Over the years, statistics have shown that the awareness for healthy lifestyles by exercising has became more widespread which proves to be a good thing. Hopefully, in the near future, this will also be placed as a priority, something in which everyone will find it meaningful, just like how everyone considers education to be a top priority.
